Rubbin' is Racin'

We just got home today from the Nascar race in Vegas. We had so much fun!!! I bought Dennis the tickets for Christmas and they were in the clubhouse which was awesome. That is definitely the way to go... your own bathroom and private bar with free drinks and really good catered meals.

We were at the track Friday afternoon for qualifying, all day Saturday for the Nationwide race and all day Sunday for the Cup race. We met alot of really cool people from all different parts of the country. Nascar fans are crazy and really devoted to their favorite drivers!!! Not all of them are the hillbillies that you would expect though. Everyone was really nice and friendly. We spent all weekend talking and laughing with people that we had just met. Dennis only upset a few people by cheering when all the Toyotas wrecked. (He's a little mad that none of the Toyota cars have Japanese sponsors. It's a real sensitive subject for him!!!!)

The "Neon Garage" is what they call all the stuff in the middle of the track. You can buy passes to go over there before the race starts. There is a live band and you can watch all the guys working on the cars in the garages. We were over there on Saturday when they were doing practice laps and we got some really cool pictures of the cars.

On Sunday we were able to walk out onto the track and check out all of the pit stop areas. It was all pretty exciting and interesting. TV does not do it justice. Hearing and watching the cars in person makes all the difference!!!

We stayed at the Venetian this time which was VERY nice. We were in a suite that was unbelievable. The bathroom was huge and was nothing but glass and mirrors and even had a tv!! The casino was really nice but I think it was a little too classy for our taste. We couldn't even get a steak in the place. We had some really good sushi one night and then had to go over to Harrah's to get some dinner on Sunday. There is a river thing on the second floor (imagine that) where you can pay for a ride in a Gondola and there are people dressed up and serenading you in Italian everywhere you go. It has a bunch of shopping like Caesars Palace and 2 night clubs that really keep the place hoppin'. The place is just too busy for us... I felt like I was underdressed in my jeans and boots when every other lady in there was in a dress and heels. (All that walking!!! They must be crazy!!) I'm all about comfort.

I was glad to see Dale Jr. do good in the Cup race. He ended up taking 2nd place. Dennis roots for any car that is a Chevrolet, but he has a few favorites.
I think we will definitely plan on going again. Maybe next time we will try camping at the track. That will be a whole different experience I'm sure.
The best part of today is actually being home. Vegas is awfully hard on your body.
It's funny how that works.... you are so excited to go that you can't wait to get there, then after a couple nights of no sleep and a few too many drinks and you can't wait to get back home!!
