I can't drive 65!!!

My husband challenged me to a little test this week. He wants to see if the fuel mileage for my truck will improve if I drive the speed limit. He has the exact same truck that I do only it is a 1 ton, and he tried it for a week and got 19 mpg. With diesel being $4.25 a gallon and my truck currently getting 12 mpg I figured I could give it a shot. WHAT A JOKE! I dont think I have ever driven the speed limit. I became that slow guy that everyone hates to be following (myself included.) I tried it on the freeway from SLC to Lehi. I set my cruise at exactly 60. (Because of the lift and tires, my speedometer is off by 5 mph so at 60 I am really going 65.) It felt like I was not even moving!! I was reduced to creeping along in the slow lane with all the semis and trucks pulling trailers instead of riding people's asses in the fast lane like usual. Some of the semis were even passing me!! At times it even felt like I was the only one on the freeway. A group of cars would come behind and pass me, and then I would be all alone until another group of cars would come by and pass. I don't know how people do it. I guess I am just in a hurry everywhere I go, although lately I don't really have anywhere to be so it must just be habit. I want to be the leader not the follower. When we travel to the farm or Hanksville, the kids joke that "no one ever passes Mom."
Of course, my speeding problem has come with consequences at times, but I have always managed to weasel my way out of the ticket. I usually blame it on the kids or not knowing that the speedometer is off. It's amazing how fast I can think of a new excuse.
As agonizing as it is, I suppose I can give it a shot this week and see what happens. I still believe though that I missed my calling and should have been in NASCAR.

You get that terrible habit from your MOM. With the price of gas we all need to get more conservative---driver slower and less. Work on it girl I know you can do it!!!!!

You crack me up! I am the same way too!

You are such a good little writer! Keep up the blogging! I miss hearing what you guys are up to all the time! Funny how life changes and people move on huh! Kind of sad! Anyway, we can't move along to much because you are too good of a friend to lose! So you remember me when you have a spare moment and have nothing to do so we can hang out!
